MALDON AND DENGIE CAMRA
Maldon and Dengie CAMRA is one of the smallest branches of the national campaign group, The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
We hold a beer and cider festival in Maldon each year showcasing the best of British ales. A small charge is made to non-CAMRA members to defray costs. In early October each year we also run a beer and cider festival in South Woodham Ferrers.

Many of our branch's pubs have a totally unspoilt feel to them, thanks in part to being owned by the family Gray & Sons (Chelmsford Ltd), whose pubs are as you remember them from years gone by. Many are simply furnished but offer real ale from an enormous choice of breweries from around the UK.
In 2016, one of our pubs was Essex CAMRA Pub of the Year (the Compasses in Great Totham). Two of our 90 pubs have in the past won the top accolade of National CAMRA pub of the year. We are proud that nearly every pub in our area sells real ale.

BREWERIES
We are the home of three noted micro- breweries Crouch Vale, Mighty Oak and Wibblers. Our three breweries have won multiple awards.

Many of our pubs stock LocAle beers, brewed from within a 30 mile radius of the pub. For more information on the LocAle campaign please click here.
PUBS
Maldon and Dengie CAMRA has 92 pubs within its branch, the majority serve real ale, some serve real ciders and perries. Details of all the pubs in our area are published within our free pub guide which is published every other year.

Our aim is to maintain and indeed improve the enviable position by encouraging breweries to supply good ale, for landlords to keep it and sell it that way and pub goers to make good use of their locals and drink fine ale.
We have a vibrant social scene with visits to beer festivals, pubs and clubs in the branch. With events ranging from curry nights to cheese and biscuits we try and support as many establishments as possible.

With events in the future planned for pub walks led by our Pub Promotions Coordinator.

Join CAMRA and you will also have access to the Branch SharePoint where licensees will update the branch with all the events that they are holding throughout the year.
When you attend your first Branch Meeting the Chair will get you a pint to celebrate and welcome you. Branch Social events are held on alternate months to the Branch Meetings

SCORING BEER
Beer scoring is encouraged and helps the branch identify which pubs go into the good beer guide.

Score your beer using the WhatPub website or the Good Beer Guide App

How to Score the Beer:

0. No cask ale available.
1. Poor. Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.
2. Average. Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn’t inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer without really noticing.
3. Good. Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.
4. Very Good. Excellent beer in excellent condition.
5. Perfect. Probably the best you are ever likely to find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.

Of course if you're not a member you wont be able to score the beers. Join now and your beer scores will count in the future.
